How to Choose a Skilled Nursing Facility for Short Term Rehabilitation

The role of Skilled Nursing Facilities has changed in recent years. At one time when you heard the term “Nursing Home” you thought it was someplace that people went and never came home again. Today this is not the case. With the advent of joint replacement surgeries, and other orthopaedic procedures, Skilled Nursing Facilities have become places to recover, strengthen, and regain function and mobility. This is also the case for persons suffering a stroke, an accident, or a host of other ailments. At one time you simply stayed in the hospital until you were well enough to go home.

Today you may not need the critical care to necessitate hospitalization but still not be well enough to go to your own home. This is where the role of the Skilled Nursing/Rehabilitation Center comes into the picture. If you are facing any of the health situations listed above you may need to spend anywhere from a few days to several weeks in a facility to receive therapy and the care necessary to make a full recovery.

If you are planning to have a procedure, the best thing to do is gather information about facilities before scheduling your surgery. This way you will have an idea of where you would like to go before the need arises. If you know someone who has had a rehabilitation stay ask them where they went and if they were satisfied with their care. You or a family member can call any facility and schedule a tour and meet with an admissions person to see if the facility will meet your needs. It is always better to be prepared than facing a placement with no time to research or decide.

At Ravine Ridge, on The Williamsport Home campus, you will receive the best therapy possible using the latest, most up to date equipment. You, or your family members, will be able to access your therapy progress on your computer using our Right Track Soft Ware. Log on and see your progress in each area including strength, balance, ambulation, and several other indicators of just how close you are to your goal of going home. The atmosphere at Ravine Ridge is full of encouragement, support and caring. Our eighteen private rooms with European style bathrooms, flat screen TV’s, in room telephones and individual thermostat controls will all contribute to your sense of well being and help you achieve your goal of getting back to the things you enjoy doing in your own home.

We, at The Williamsport Home, are always happy to have people come and visit, take a tour and meet with Mike Ciccarelli, our Admissions Director. You are welcome to come and see our therapy department, meet our therapists, ask the questions you have of the persons that would be providing your care. There is a reason that The Williamsport Home has been serving the Lycoming County Community since 1872. Our Tradition of Caring has been in place for one hundred and forty years. Although the functions of our facility have changed over the years the dedication, compassion, and caring we display have been continuous for all those years.

If you are facing health challenges that require short or long term rehabilitation please consider The Williamsport Home.
